About Elemen

Elemen are elemental humans who possess a separate circulatory system in their bodies, which carries something called liquid element. This liquid is inert until it reaches a port, a special organ located in the hands and feet just below the skin. Once it passes through the port, it can manifest as a given element. These elements manifest is different ways depending on what type of elemen is involved.

Elemen did not originally live in the world where they currently reside. While records have been lost to time, they originally came from a world called Aregania, where they waged war against the reigning Areganians, a minority group of humans whose royal family had ruled the planet since ancient times. As a result of their actions, the gods cursed the elemen, forcing them to flee through a cross-dimensional forest called the enchanted forest. From there, they entered the new world and flourished.

Because of this, their world has no proper name, and is referred to as The Lands or The New World in ancient records. Although most elemen are aware another world once existed, much of how they arrived has faded into myth and legend.

In accordance with the practices of ancient elemen clans, each type of elemen has two colors deemed culturally important to them, and this factors heavily into the local fashion of each city-state.

Flame Elemen
In flame elemen, they possess an additional stomach called the elemental duodenum, which stores proteins that become fuel for the fire they produce. They run on a much higher temperature than most elemen, which an average body temperature of 120 degrees. In accordance to this, their cells are virtually fireproof. They are capable of creating fire from nothing, and some can even learn to breath fire by expelling flames directly from the elemental duodenum. They also possess an affinity for fire and molten rock, allowing them some degree of control over it, whether they created it or not. In order to power their flames, flame elemen must eat high calorie diets of mostly proteins.

Most flame elemen live in the city-state of Stendrion, located in the middle of a vast desert. A fiercely militaristic society, the citizens of Stendrion are rarely allowed to leave, and are often forced into the military at a very young age, overtaxing their element until it burns them up. Although most elemen live to be around 120, Flame elemen rarely live to see 40.

Their cultural colors are purple and silver.

Aqua Elemen
Aqua elemen come in two types: rain-dancers and wave-riders. Rain-dancers can only produce small amounts of water from their bodies, but can control the weather to a frightening degree, invoking both rainstorms and snowstorms. Wave-riders are capable of creating up to five gallons of water at a time, and their affinity for water allows them to control waves and currents, even in water they didn't personally create. Aqua elemen must do everything possible to avoid dehydration, which can be fatal very quickly.

Their city-state of Leiyata has been divided between both groups of elemen for some time, and is frequently in the midst of civil war, with Wave-riders living in base below the Western Might Sea, while the rain-dancers live in bunkers underground. Due to the large number of aqua elemen in one place, it's always raining in Leiyata.

Their cultural colors are blue and black.

Wind Elemen
Wind Elemen have bodies capable of withstanding intense amounts of pressure, due to the nature of their element causing high internal pressure as well. They can produce powerful gusts of wind, twisters, and some of the most skilled can even fly. Unlike other elemen, most wind elemen utilize ports located in the lungs, and only use their hands when manipulating existing wind currents. Wind elemen culture favors small meals eaten throughout the day, to avoid feelings of fullness or sluggishness.

They live high in mountains in the kingdom of Gaildasia, said to be a peaceful utopia ruled by an omniscient emperor, who expels criminals off the mountains before they can even enter. Peoples of all races are welcome to live there, including a number of humans who've traveled from across the Might Sea. Among all elemen, wind elemen have the longest life spans, with the current emperor Idnagi rumored to be over 300 years old.

Their cultural colors are red and orange.

Garden Elemen
Garden Elemen are among the most unique. They possess the ability to manipulate life itself, which often comes in the form of encouraging plants to grow. Powerful Garden elemen have been said to possess healing powers, but this ability has seemingly been lost to time. Although it has no effect on their powers, eating meat is forbidden in Garden Eleman culture.

They live in Kikura, located in a valley just beyond the desert, where a larger-than-life tree can be seen jutting out of the landscape from as far as Stendrion. Their numbers have dwindled over the years due to hostility from Stendrion, and due to general tensions with other cities, Kikura is closed to outsiders.

Their cultural colors are pink and brown.

Thunder Elemen
Thunder elemen are capable of generating electricity from their bodies. Their natural heartrate is much faster than other elemen, and they're known for having much more energy in general. In terms in diet, most thunder elemen subsist on diets high in carbohydrates to power their electricity, with others even opting for diets high in refined sugars for more potent charges. However, stimulants such as caffeine are very dangerous for them in high doses, as it can cause an unstable spike in heart-rate and even lead to genuine addiction or dependence.

Thunder elemen reside in the technologically advanced city-state known as Jet City. Located just off the shores of the Eastern Might Sea, Jet City is surrounded by a mountain range containing extraordinarily tall pillars serving as lightning rods, in order to collect the lightning that naturally forms when large amount of thunder elemen are gathered. This lightning both powers the city, and protects residents from lightning strikes. Unlike other city-states, Jet City is open to peoples of any race, though special permission is needed for Flame elemen, given the tensions between Jet City and Stendrion.

Their cultural colors are green and yellow.

Light Elemen
Long believed to be extinct, light elemen were capable of creating projections of light and illusions. Additionally, they possessed a unique ability to manipulate aspects of what was called the "soul", allowing them to draw out physical manifestations of the soul in order to treat emotional trauma and mental disorders. It's believed all elemen possess this ability, though the method of using it has been lost to time. Although very little is known about them, it's believed the have some connection to the child-like monsters known as illusionists, who live in the enchanted forest just south of the desert. While illusionists can also manipulate the soul and create illusions, they're also mindless creatures who feed on the souls of elemen.

Their cultural colors were white and gold.

Mixed Elemen
Mixed elemen are the result of cross-breeding between different types of elemen. Due to the unique make-up of their bodies, oftentimes mixed elemen are born with bodies that cannot sustain or control the element that runs through their veins. Assuming they aren't still-born, many lead tragically short lives, often dying in horrific or painful ways. As a result, the creation of mixed children is considered unethical, and is illegal in most city-states. In the cases of Stendrion and Gaildasia, the parents are executed.

Most mixed elemen will wear colors in accordance with their dominant element or their city of residence in order to blend in. Only Stendrion enforces a distinction for military dress, requiring both colors be represented.

Although listing every possible combination would be impossible, these are some notable ones.

Garden/ALL - Unlike other elemen, Garden elemen are capable of cross-breeding with any other elemen due to being the less dominant element in all cases. But as with all mixed elemen, they are born sterile.

Wind/ALL - Mixed children who contain wind element in their bodies suffer the worst fates, oftentimes killing the mother as well.

Aqua/Flame - In a curious case of opposites attract, children born of this combination don't contain any traces of liquid element, and possess no elemental affinity. It's unknown why this happens.

Flame/Thunder - Considered the most common combination, the bodies of these children will eventually pick on element to be the dominant one. Should their dominant element compliment their physical body, they may even live without any negative side effects. It is very rare for any mixed elemen to have control over both elements.
